Camerata Romeu is an all-woman string orchestra that focuses on Cuban classical music. Asked why she started the ensemble, conductor Zenaida Romeu replied:

I spent some time in Europe teaching choir lessons, I saw that women had a secondary role, unlike Cuba, so I decided to show that my “third world” country, as they call it, has a socially recognized space for females.
